Glordinary

My life is very ordinary. I’m not glamorous. But in a culture that’s constantly chasing the next shiny thing, there’s something deeply satisfying about a ”long obedience in the same direction.” It’s an ordinary life, but better. It’s Glordinary. Let’s be friends as we celebrate God’s Glory and champion the ordinary.

We don’t do small very well. Small tends to mean insignificant or “less than.” And bigger is better, right? Maybe. Or maybe God’s perspective is a little bit different than ours. Maybe God cherishes the small. Dare I say, prefers the small. Sure, God’s “big enough,” but is He “small enough” too? Is it okay to say that?Yes, yes it is. So, let’s chat about when God’s perspective differs from ours, and why that’s a very good thing! We’ll take a big look into 2 Samuel 22:36.

Here’s a small excerpt: “Like an attentive parent, He stoops down to hear your stories, your heartaches, kiss your boo-boos and scoop you up. Because only a big God could choose to be small enough to stoop down to make you great, to make me great.”

Do you find yourself asking some hard questions these days? Maybe it’s the unspoken ones nagging to the core. Ever needed God to show up in a big way, and He just… didn’t? You’re not alone. Let’s chat tomorrow about when it seems like God just didn’t understand the assignment. We’ll look at Exodus 23, a time when He failed to show up in a big way. What’s that all about? Listen in and join me for a reassuring moment.

Here’s a small excerpt:He drove them out “little by little.” Because maybe “little by little” IS God showing up in a BIG way. Maybe He’s after something far greater, far bigger, than just slaying giants. Maybe the lil lil lil places in me are the biggest priorities for Him. And even though I don’t always like that, “I okay.”

Communication can be tricky! Whether we’re talking with a close friend, ourselves, or even the “Big Guy Upstairs,” communication covers everything from what’s said to what isn’t said. And let’s be real. Silence can be pretty deafening at times. Let’s chat about when, or if, God really does hear us. We’ll pay attention to the ways the “Big Guy” listens to the smallest sighs and loudest cries . Listen in for a Psalm 5 episode.

Here’s a small excerpt: “The One who hears what I’m saying, yet hears what I’m not saying too. The silent words lodged deep within my soul. Don’t you see, my Friend? There is no thought, no word, no cry that He does not cup His ear to hear, to distinguish your voice from everything else, and prick up His ears to attend to you…and to me.”

Have you ever been told your problem is too small? It’s all I heard for months…on repeat. How can a problem be too small when it’s the biggest thing on your mind?
Let’s talk about it with a new story- a story about a problem so small, yet so big, that only an incomparable God could see. Listen in for an episode from Isaiah 40 and the deep chapters of my story.
www.glordinary.com
Here’s a small excerpt:“For all the big ways we might feel “too small” today, there is an incomparable God inviting you and me to look to the stars, the ones He knows by name and brings out one by one. If a single star cannot escape His notice, neither can you.”

Choices are great, right? Sometimes. But when decisions feel draining, do you have a trusted go-to for counsel? Not all advice is created equal. In times of decision-making, who you listen to matters.
Join me for a new episode highlighting the importance of advice over agreement, leaning in to wise counsel first and foremost. We’ll check out some ancient wisdom from an obscure, yet all too familiar, story.

Here’s a small excerpt:“He wasn’t really asking for advice. He was asking for agreement. And just like in our lives, when we’ve already made up our minds, we can always find someone to agree with us. Because who you listen to matters!”

Does God go radio silent right when you need to hear Him most? Ever feel like life's extra noisy when you’re trying to zero in on that "still small voice"? Yep, been there.
Let’s chat about how we can hear God’s voice. Is He even speaking in the first place? What if I'm missing it completely? We’ll take a cue from John 10 on how to discern God’s voice for our lives.

Here’s a small excerpt:“You do know us, Lord…every desire, every fear, every thought, every decision, every crossroads. He knows. And after 45 years on this earth, my confidence is growing…yes, in my ability to hear but more so in my assurance that He speaks in a way I know how to hear.”

Ever get stumped facing a big decision? Feel paralyzed with overthinking, indecision, and the what-if's? How do you figure out your next right step? Here’s a small excerpt:“Because I don’t know about you, but when I’m on the cusp of a decision, be it an awesome opportunity or a less-than-awesome dilemma, I truly want to make the best call. But how do we take the next right step? It starts with one small yes down the path- the path He broadens beneath me so my ankles do not turn. One small yes. The yes way.”

Welcome, 2025! Ready or not, here we go! Starting strong is easy for some people. For others? Well, maybe your “get up and go,” got up and went. Wherever you fall on the spectrum of new beginnings, let’s grab a cup of coffee together. We’ll chat about prioritizing our lives the best way possible. New year, age-old wisdom from 2 Chronicles 29.www.glordinary.com
Here’s a small excerpt:“Because Friend, sometimes, in order to start the right things, in the right way, at the right time, we have to undo a thing or two. We have to open some doors that’ve been closed a long time. We’ve got to make some repairs. Sometimes we need to unlearn some things…even some things that maybe seemed helpful, convenient, or “right” at the time.”

Do you lose track of the days between Christmas and New Year’s? I know, me too! Yet, this is the exact moment most influential leaders implore us to make critical life declarations. The infamous “Word of the Year” or New Year’s Resolutions racket.
Look, I decided a long time ago I was not a “Word of the Year” kind of girl. Too much pressure. And resolutions? They’re often hopeful but not always helpful. Instead, join me and take a few moments to prayerfully ponder some reflection questions as we turn the calendar page.
www.glordinary.com
Here’s a small excerpt:“These questions, or a combination thereof, become bookends as I say hello and goodbye to the changing year. Reflecting on the helpful, the distracting, the celebrations, the mundane, and the pending keeps me living the Glordinary life of one foot in front of the other. Glimpsing His Glory in the ordinary.”

Monday Dec 23, 2024
