Glordinary

My life is very ordinary. I’m not glamorous. But in a culture that’s constantly chasing the next shiny thing, there’s something deeply satisfying about a ”long obedience in the same direction.” It’s an ordinary life, but better. It’s Glordinary. Let’s be friends as we celebrate God’s Glory and champion the ordinary.

Life has a way of dragging us down, right? Like it or not, we’re constantly moving. Up, down. Closer, further. How we respond to that movement is up to us. Well-formed habits bring well-formed maturity and movement… in the best direction. So, let’s take a few moments with some time-tested wisdom in Romans 12:1-2 in our series, Habits That Work. We’ll chat about what to do when life is dragging you down.
www.glordinary.comHere’s a small excerpt: "I was already drowning in the sting of death, the devastation of divorce within my friend circles, the sorrow of separation, betrayal, lies, and cover-ups. I didn’t need any help dragging me down to that level of immaturity. I needed to recognize and respond quickly to the countermovement in my heart. But I couldn’t do that without deciding to cut away certain habits from the trellis of my life. Because unlike the culture around you, “God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you”… -and well-formed maturity comes from well-formed habits. God brings the best out of us from forming the best in us.”

It’s no secret. Our everyday, ordinary habits form us…for better or worse. We’re pretty aware of our bad habits, so let’s chat about a new way, a better way. Keystone habits shape us in the best way possible- from the inside out.Join me in our series, Habits That Work. We’ll chat through how to build strong, keystone habits as we continue with Paul’s words in Romans 12:1-2.
www.glordinary.comHere’s a small excerpt: "But here’s the trend I’ve found to be true in my rule of life. On days I reached for my phone first, my day drastically aligned itself more toward anxiety, comparison, or envy. Despair, anger, or judgment flooded my early morning thoughts. The days I began with the Word, BEFORE grabbing my phone, my heart was in a dramatically different place. Coincidence? Paul submits that it is not. Our first moments of waking are some of the most powerful moments of formation. My brain became cluttered with what I saw, read, or noticed undone on my phone.”

Do you ever have days (or years) that just seem wild and unruly? Or maybe it’s a season that seems dead-in-the-water. Make the moments matter with a “rule of life” to orient yourself toward the One who holds all things together, even you and me. Join me as we continue our series, Habits That Work. We’ll chat through Romans 12:1-2 on why our habits matter in our everyday, ordinary lives and how to build the best ones.

Here’s a small excerpt: "But why would Paul lead us to form a “rule of life,” a trellis for our lives to grow? Because just like in Paul’s day, culture isn’t neutral. Life isn’t neutral. You’re growing. I’m growing. And a “rule of life” helps us structure that growth and avoid decay, rot, and overall craziness. Because at the end of the day, either you will set your habits or someone else will set them for you: employer, administrator, family, friends, or your commitments.”

If you ever question why you do (or don’t do) certain things, welcome to the club. Our 30,000+ decisions every day allow our brains to outsource to the habit department (or basal ganglia if you want to be specific). So, let’s talk about our habits: what they are, why they matter, and how to make them work FOR you.Join me as we kickstart our new series, Habits That Work. We’ll take a look at Paul’s nearly 2,000-year-old wisdom from Romans 12:1-2.
www.glordinary.comHere’s a small excerpt: “But our habits aren’t formed in the vacations of life; they’re formed in the everyday, ordinary life. What’s more is that habits are forming YOU and ME in the everyday, ordinary parts of life. And that’s actually great news because as disappointing as this may sound, real life isn’t vacation. It’s not weekends and holidays. Real life is every day. Real life is ordinary.”
